Why visit
At the south-eastern corner of Matkavaara, on the brink of a sandy heath, lies a Mesolithic Stone Age dwelling site. By the 1991 survey notes, probably only scraps of it remain.
Look for: The dwelling site was largely destroyed when the railway was built, and both the railway and the road now run straight through it. On the lower terrace lies what is practically the same site, ROI 68.
About this site
Matkavaaran kaakkoiskulmassa oleva mesoliittisen kivikauden asuinpaikka hiekkaperäisen kankaan törmällä. Rautatie ja maantie on puhkaistu asuinpaikan läpi. Käytännössä samaa kohdetta on alemman terassin ROI 68. V. 1991 inventoinnin muistiinpanojen mukaan kohde on pääosin tuhoutunut junaradan teon yhteydessä ja jäljellä on todennäköisesti vain rippeitä.
