Why visit
Paavalniemi lies on the low southern bank of the Kemijoki, now covered by detached houses. The University of Oulu's history department excavated here in 1982, and the 2014 survey judged the Stone Age site probably destroyed.
Look for: The ground is low-lying and the soil is partly flood silt. What you see is mostly the river bank and the houses built on it.
About this site
Kemijoen etelänpuoleisella törmällä oleva Paavalniemi on varsin alava, omakotitaloasutuksen kattama maasto. Maaperä on osittain tulvalietekerrostumaa. Ks. Rovaniemi 443: Oulun yliopiston historian laitoksen kaivaus Paavalniemellä 1982. Vuoden 2014 inventoinnin tietojen mukaan todennäköisesti tuhoutunut.
