Why visit
On the northern slope of Varassaari, by the shore of Saunalahti, a battle trench from 1918 zigzags across the hillside. The line turns eight times, and the spoil and stones were piled into a rampart on the downhill side, facing north.
Look for: The trench runs about half a metre to a metre deep, the rampart some 70 cm high, built of stones around 40 cm across and dug earth. Parts of it have collapsed or been filled with soil and rubbish.
About this site
Vuoden 1918 taistelukaivanto. Kaivanto on itä-länsi suuntaisesti Varassaaren pohjoisreunan rinteessä 85 mmpy käyrällä Saunalahden rannalla. Kaivanto on kaivettu sik-sak muotoiseksi ja kaivannossa on 8 polvea. Valli on kasattu alarinteen puolelle eli kohti pohjoista. Kaivannon syvyys vaihtelee n. 50 cm - 1m syvyiseksi.
Osa kaivannosta on romahtanut kasaan tai täytetty maalla ja roskalla. Vallituksen korkeus on maanpinnasta n. 70 cm. Vallitus on tehty pääasiassa isohkoista (halkaisija n. 40 cm) kivistä ja kaivannosta kaivetusta maasta.
