Why visit

In the south-western part of Vimpelinvaara, a couple of hundred metres south-east of the ski slope, six pits lie along a hundred-metre stretch of moraine pine heath. They may be hunting pits, though the setting and the soil are not quite typical.

Look for: The pits are 2 to 3 metres across and half a metre to a metre deep. They form a south-east to north-west row: four fairly evenly spaced at the south-east end, then two side by side some fifty metres further north-west.

About this site

Kohde sijaitsee Kajaanin Vimpelinvaaran lounaisosassa, laskettelurinteestä parisataa metriä kaakkoon. Alue on moreenipohjaista mäntykangasta. Vuoden 2016 inventoinnissa havaittiin noin 100 metrin matkalla kuusi kuoppaa, joiden läpimitta on 2-3 metriä ja syvyys 0,5-1 metriä. Kuopat ovat osapuilleen kaakko-luode suuntaisessa rivissä, neljä kaakossa olevaa kuoppaa ovat melko tasaisesti 50 metrin matkalla, näistä noin 50 metriä luoteeseen on vielä kaksi kuoppaa rinnakkain. On mahdollista, että kyse on pyyntikuopista, vaikka sijainti ja maaperä ei ole pyyntikuopille aivan tyypillinen.
