How to plan a heritage weekend
The app maps every site in the Finnish Heritage Agency's registers — from castles to cairns. Here is how to turn that into a weekend.
Start from a place
Search a town or village and the map centres there. Use the ★ Must-see filter to cut to the highlights, or filter by era — Stone Age to Medieval. Most sites in the register are archaeological, so the filters matter.
Build a route
Add sites to your route, reorder them, and open the whole route in Google Maps for driving directions. Or use the route suggestion, which assembles nearby sites into a sensible driving order from your interests.
Before you go
Many sites are open countryside — cairns and hillforts with no signage or facilities, so bring proper footwear. Museums and churches have opening hours; check them ahead. Best season is May–September; some sites are snow-covered in winter.
