About this site

Perttula Special Vocational School and Alikylä form an exceptionally well-preserved complex of temporal depth and diverse settlement and building history on the western shore of Vanajavesi, on a flat promontory in Miemala village. The special vocational school and its predecessors have operated in Perttula since the 1890s. The area's original architectural appearance is well preserved. To the southwest, the landscape space is bounded by a ridge continuing southward from the Hattelmala esker. The area's built environment consists of two complexes: Miemala Alikylä in the middle of an open agricultural field and Perttula Special Vocational School built on the slope of the esker. Perttula Special Vocational School is situated on the Hattelmala esker on the land of the former Perttala cavalry estate. The building group includes, in addition to Governor Rehbinder's villa designed by C.A. Edelfelt with its associated farm buildings, also buildings from the former institution for the upbringing and education of children with intellectual disabilities. The manor's main building, converted into a villa in the 1860s, is surrounded by a park from the same period. The majority of Perttula's wooden building stock dates from the 1890s and 1910s. The residential building Pakarila and the granary are from the Rehbinder era, the utility and residential building Kuusistola and Metsätalo from the 1890s. The school and pupil dormitory Taimela was completed in 1911.
