About this site

The Empire-style stone building, known under the name of the old post office, was completed in 1846 as a lower elementary school. The post office operated in the building from 1890 to 1953; since then it has been used by various government offices. The classicist stone building of the Häme Land Survey Office was completed in 1910–1911 to drawings by architect Ricardo Björnberg. Stylistically the building is related to the adjacent former post office. Together the buildings form a stylistically coherent ensemble and street frontage. Both buildings are protected under the decree concerning state buildings.
