Viinikan kirkko

Tampere

About this site

Stone church. Viinikkakyrkan, representing the decorative classicism of the 1930s, is one of the first examples in Finland of a concentration of the parish work centre and parsonage into the same building complex as the church. To the white-plastered rectangular church a tall bell tower is attached beside the main entrance. The parish hall and other parish spaces are grouped around an enclosed courtyard. The corners of the sharp-edged triangular building complex are highlighted by low octagonal towers. In the atmospheric church hall, the gaze is directed toward the semicircular choir apse, where there is a large gilded Christ sculpture made by sculptor V.R. Rautalin. In the four small domes of the high inner ceiling there are stylized evangelist-themed paintings made by decorative artists Eino Rapp and Eino Kauria. The light fittings were manufactured by Antti Hakkarainen's art forge.
